Two dozen alumni Choraliers returned to Flint River Academy
Two dozen alumni Choraliers returned to Flint River Academy on Saturday, October 9th for a wonderful concert.
They joined the current FRA Choraliers in performing favorites from their past including "Chapel of Love", "Spoonful of Sugar",
"There is Nothing Like a Dame", and "Sea To Shining Sea." The current Choraliers are led by FRA Music Teacher Janet Mapel,
who is also an alum from the class of 1974. Tom Helton returned to lead the alumni, he was the Music Teacher at Flint River
Academy from 1976-1979. The Choraliers were accompanied by Tom's wife Laura. The large crowd also enjoyed the Sweet
Georgia Violins, a group of young violinists from Thomaston which includes FRA sixth grader Julia Hawkins.

Thank You for Supporting Our First Flint River Academy Spring Auction!
The Buckles & Boots Auction was a huge success! Thank you to all the attendees,
bidders, donors, volunteers, and contributors. Over 150 supporters braved the
rainy weather to enjoy the auction, a delicious bbq buffet, and dancing to the live
band. A good time was had by all and thousands of dollars was raised to
support our school.

Mark Tweed, Class of 1982, making an impact on FRA
In his 1982 graduation valedictorian speech, Mark Tweed spoke on “Facing the Sun” and quoted Isaiah 40:31, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”
Mark Tweed today is part of a successful architectural firm in Los Angeles and he is still running and with renewed energy. He has turned his talents to FRA, and has offered building and landscaping plans that should renew FRA and help us present a more upscale public image.
Tweed finished FRA in 1982 and went on to earn bachelor and master degrees at Georgia Tech. He refined his talents and education by being part of their Paris Program for architects. But he thanks FRA for his first exposure to the world: “I had never had a taco or Asian cuisine until FRA.”
While at FRA he always wanted to be an athlete, but he said he weighed 95 pounds wet and was just not eligible. His mother, who taught at FRA, and lives
with him in Beverly Hills, began our FRA Choralier program. In its beginning, Choraliers practiced daily after baseball practice from 5-6:30 and had no
designated classroom. Tweed praises FRA not only for its strong academics (He was Valedictorian and STAR Student), but offering opportunities for all,
“few schools allow and encourage their students to be able to try and do it all: academics, sports, fine arts.”
