Flint River Academy is extending special congratulations to Hunter Adkins and Jordan Nash who were
recently named School Winners for the prestigious Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. To be eligible
for this award, students must exhibit excellence in academics, athletics, and community/school leadership.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman program, awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, celebrates
the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom. Just as the
collegiate Heisman is known for being the top award in college football, the Wendy’s High School Heisman
award is known for being the most prestigious award at the high school level. The award encourages future
leadership by recognizing well-balanced lifestyles at an early age.
Hunter Adkins and Jordan Nash were selected as School Winners for Flint River Academy based on the
following accomplishments:

and track teams, and has served as Captain of the football team. Hunter is President of the National Honor Society and a member of the All Select Chorus, the Fellowship

second at the State Science Olympiad. Hunter has a 3.75 GPA and won the George Eastman Young Leaders Award in 2011. He plans on attending the
University of Georgia.

member of the varsity basketball and track teams. She was a starter on the 2010 GISA AA State Softball Championship team and the 2011 GISA AA Region
Championship Team. Jordan has received numerous softball awards including Most Improved, All-District, and All-State. She plans on attending college at Central Alabama.
“On behalf of Flint River Academy, we are extremely proud to celebrate the outstanding athletic and scholastic achievements of Jordan Nash and Hunter Adkins with this
prestigious award,” said Michele Purvis, Head of School at Flint River Academy. For more information or to track a student’s progress through the competition, please log
on to www.WendysHeisman.com or call 1-800-205-6367.
Created in 1994, WHSH has set the standard for high school student-athletes and gained tremendous prestige in its own right. To date, more than 188,000 high school
students have represented their schools and been touched by the Heisman glory.
The program consists of six stages of awards – applicants, school winners, state finalists, state winners, national finalists and national winners. Entries are initially
evaluated by ACT Assessment during the Applicant, State Finalist and State Winner phases and then passed on to a distinguished panel of judges. Known for the ACT
college entrance exam, ACT is a nonprofit organization offering educational measurement and research services.
Twelve National Finalists will be invited to participate in Heisman weekend festivities during an all-expense paid trip to New York City on Dec. 10. ESPN will feature the
two National Winners during the national telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation on December 11.

FRA Key Club’s 2nd Annual 5K/1K Fun Run
The Flint River Academy Key Club will be hosting its 2nd annual Priceless 5K/1K Fun Run in honor of a FRA family member, Karen Ellington King. Karen has been diagnosed with a rare type of sarcoma cancer. Proceeds from the run will help cover the medical costs associated with fighting this disease.
Karen has been dealing with health issues for the past three years. After years of tests and waiting, the sarcoma cancer was diagnosed after a biopsy performed at Piedmont Hospital. The tumor is located in the pulmonary artery. Due to its location, the tumor has been deemed inoperable. Karen will be receiving treatments at Emory Hospital, and if possible, plans to seek help at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Karen King and her family reside in Gay, GA. Karen has two children, Courtney (age 15) who is a student at Flint River Academy and Cody (age 18) who is a graduate of Flint River Academy and is currently attending LaGrange College.
The FRA Priceless 5K/1K Fun Run will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00am at Lake Meriwether.
