A Parent’s Guide
To Accelerated Reader (AR)
FRA is building a lifelong love of reading and learning through Accelerated Reader!
Students in grades 1 - 4 will participate in AR.
The Accelerated Reader program is designed to get students excited about books. AR helps focus attention on the careful reading of books, which improves students’ critical-thinking skills and builds an intrinsic love of reading.
This guide is designed to answer some of your questions about AR. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, FRA Media Specialist Mrs. Corley library@flintriveracademy.com or visit the Accelerated Reader web site at www.renlearn.com.
Reading Success is as Easy as 1-2-3 with AR
- Your Child Reads a Book. Students choose their own books at their appropriate reading level and read them at their own pace. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. Visit www.arbookfind.com to search for available titles.
- Your Child Takes a Quiz. Accelerated Reader Enterprise offers more than 125,000 quizzes to help motivate and monitor your child’s reading performance and vocabulary growth.
- You Get Information. You get immediate feedback on the reading progress of your child.
The Goal of AR:
- The goal of AR is COMPREHENSION. The main objective is for students to score 80% or higher on each quiz. Meeting this goal has significant impact on students’ reading growth.
- Secondary goals are accumulating points and increasing reading levels.
