Flint River Academy is pleased to announce that junior Julie Bergen has been admitted to the prestigious Governor’s Honor Program in the field of math.

The GH program is a six week summer program designed to challenge and enrich with educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Funded by the General Assembly, the program costs the student no money.

Flint River Academy teachers and Counselor Peggy Wade nominate students in special instructional areas according to their abilities, aptitudes and interests. Transcripts and endorsements substantiate the nomination where they are screened at the state level. Nominees are interviewed and finalists selected from a group of over four hundred. It is a distinct honor to be chosen to participate.

Mathematics is one of the major instructional areas with four support areas available: computers, counseling, library/media, and physical fitness. In addition over a hundred educational seminars are offered each week by the Governor’s Honors residential and support staff. Performances by GH students are given in concerts, theatre, and dance and visual arts shows are ongoing through the summer as well as by special guest artists.

Julie is the daughter of David and Pamela Bergen of Brooks. She was nominated by her math teacher, Mrs. Kay Barnes.
